The Dry Creek Poolhouse by Ro Rockett Design

Ro Rockett Design completed this 301 square feet property in 2014 in Geyserville, California. Despite of being on a tight budget, the Poolhouse is an outstanding country retreat with modern functionality, breathtaking views and beautiful local materials.

The Design project

The project named “Dry Creek Poolhouse” started out as a rustic country retreat for a city couple but evolved into a full-time residence. The property is located on a constrained lot in Sonoma County, California which is a top food and wine destination just 45 minutes north of San Francisco.

“We aim for our projects to provide and evoke the spectrum of experience from utility to joy; places that we want to return to over and over”

Despite being on a tight budget, the design team managed to get the most out of the long and narrow plot that overlooks spectacular vistas of rolling vineyards and classic coastal California ridge-lines. The project includes a pool, pool house, outdoor living area, gardens, bocce court and guest arrival with overflow parking. The pool house is cut into the hillside and the pool raised high on the property allowing the horizon of the pool edge to edit the view of the road below.

Reusing grape stakes as wrapping

The build showcases an inventive reuse of local materials; one example is the wrapping of the prime program of the pool house which is made from grape stakes gathered from the property. The cladding provides solid walls where necessary and opens to the view where desirable. The modest interior seamlessly expands to the terrace and supports the rustic enclosure.
