The Macallan 72 Years old in Lalique – the Genesis Decanter

The Macallan 72-year-old whisky was originally distilled in the 1940s. Since then, the scotch has been left untouched and with plenty of time to develop its sweet oak taste and soft vanilla notes. Having just bottled 600 decanters, the single malt is extremely rare and with the exclusive and handmade case it also comes with an impressive price tag.

The perfect whiskey glass

Exclusive and handmade presentation

The liquid gold is presented in a crystal decanter – The Genesis Decanted – designed and produced by the famous French glassmaker Lalique. The handcrafted crystal decanter is a piece of art and celebrates the collaboration of masters across the fields of whisky, crystal, architecture, construction and craftsmanship. Clean lines and natural curves of the new distillery are incorporated into the design.

The case is designed by Burgess Studio and handcrafted from the finest materials by The Royal Warrant holding cabinet makers. It has a curved wooden roof over the decanter which is a direct reference to the design of the new distillery and Visitors Experience.

Both elements take part in telling the story of a new beginning for The Macallan represented by the new state-of-the-art distillery.

Rare drops of liquid gold

The 72-year-old Macallan single malt is said to be one of the best whiskies ever produced by The Macallan distillery. Master Distiller of The Macallan, Nick Savage, describes the whisky: “For its seventy-two years of maturation, the deceptively light colour hints that this is not an ordinary single malt. Reminiscent of a time gone by, it carries an exquisite balance of strong, sweet oak with the peaty spirit shaping its refined character. The whisky delivers surprise after surprise as aromas of fruit follow distinctive hints of peat, all the way through to the back of the mouth where it is finished off with a lingering hint of rich fruit and oak. Although delicate throughout all aspects, it provides an intense experience which acknowledges the distinguished history of The Macallan.”
