The Fastest Porsche 912 – Powered by Tesla

What would you do if you owned a 1968 Porsche 912: keep it original or modify it? Retrofitting; the addition of new technology or features to older systems, is something that divides the crowds and converting a vintage car to electric is probably even more controversial!

Zelectric Motors and EV West have joined forces to convert this 1968 Porsche 912 from the original flat-four to being powered by a Tesla drive train. Instead of the heavy Tesla batteries, a lighter LG Chem battery pack has been installed and the modified Porsche has a whopping 550 hp!

Electric conversions are becoming increasingly popular and Zelectric Motors has a 3-year waiting list. As an alternative, they plan to sell a 912 conversion kit for $50,000 USD. With lower prices, we will probably see more discussions about the need for updating older cars to modern conditions – or keeping the vintage cars original for the authentic driving experience.
