The Glenlivet whisky chair by Gareth Neal

When The Glenlivet launched their connoisseur whisky Nádurra, award-winning furniture designer Gareth Neal was tasked with designing a chair for the occasion. The Dram Chair is a luxury interpretation of the camping chair and is designed to take your imagination to a place of relaxation – your ultimate spot for enjoying a Scotch.

The central element of Nádurra

The meaning of “Nádurra” in Gaelich is “natural” and The Glenlivet Nádurra is part of the company’s range of small-batch expressions made using traditional 19th-century techniques. When furniture designer Gareth Neal started to draw the chair, he wanted the design the communicate the natural qualities embedded in the Nádurra.

Traditional and beautiful materials

Gareth Neal decided to use the same oak for the chairs as is used for the casks and to match the traditional stills in the distillery, copper detailing is incorporated. The seat and back are made with oak bark-tanned leather for which the designed had to find the last tanner of its kind to do the job. The result is a truly amazing leather that creates a perfect harmony to the whisky itself.

Creating the perfect spot for a dram of whisky

The reason for finding inspiration in the traditional camping chair comes from the idea to create the perfect spot to sit and enjoy a dram of whisky. As Gareth Neal expresses it “beside a salmon filled river in the highlands of Scotland”. The chair is constructed with the finest natural materials and a remarkable attention to detail. One particular cool feature is the etchings in each arm designated to rest your bottle and glass.
